Spiritual nonconformance just might be the key to your complete transformation— or to your next step
Religion—like most everything in our lives—is neither good nor bad in and of itself.
Positive nor negative.
Supportive nor detrimental.
People apply religion in ways the expand, or ways that constrict.
People, leaders, systems, structures… and the individuals who are affected by those aspects of religion.
Religion and spirituality are major formative agents of socialization in our lives; whether you grew up as an adherent of a mainstream version of a major religion, or as an atheist, or a secular humanist, or a non-practicing xyz… you’re still affected by your views and understanding of spirituality and religion, for better or for worse.
And everything happening in our society right now only magnifies these effects—pushes us farther in one direction or another with these issues, ideas, beliefs, and attitudes.
Enter spiritual nonconformance.
We’re born into these specific lives and families for a reason. I won’t go into the details here, but suffice it to say our Souls made some choices, and here we are.
And no matter what religion or faith you practice (or don’t)—or what flavor of that religion or faith you practice (or don’t)—you always have a choice.
You choose to practice. You choose what to practice. You choose what you actually believe or don’t, based on what you’re taught.
You choose how those beliefs, doctrines, dogmas affect you, and how they affect your actions.
You choose whether you listen to your inner, spiritual, emotional, and physical guidance systems when they’re telling you what works for you and what doesn’t.
Don’t get me wrong—I know it’s not always easy to listen to what you know inside yourself to be true, especially when it contradicts what everyone in your life believes or tells you.
And it’s even harder when you don’t have supportive practices that help you connect with your Soul, with Source, with Universal Truth, and the truth for who you are in this lifetime.
If you can’t tap in and listen to your Soul / Higher Self and receive guidance unique to you, it’s tough to distinguish your inner guidance from years (or decades) of religious or otherwise external, societal programming in the other direction.
I know—I went through this process, and it took me years to learn to sort that out on my own.
But until you do—you’ll continue to feel like you feel now. If you’re unsure of the best way to go, if you don’t know how to connect with your inner Divine Guidance system and truth—you’ll continue to have to rely on others to tell you what to do and not to do.
Your default settings may continue to steer you toward other people’s ideas about who you are, what you should do with your life, and how you should do it.
If you happen to be like me, with fundamentalist values ingrained from a young age, your default settings may consistently steer you completely away from all that is meant for you, from all the tools and ways available to you to connect with your Higher Self, Source, and passionate, fulfilling inner guidance and direction.
Like I said before—you always have a choice.
Whether you’re on autopilot now, relying on default settings, or you’ve already begun some of the inner work to help break through all the programming keeping you confined to a small, non-resonant area—you have a choice.
In each moment.
To allow things to stay as they area, or to allow your personal, unique, inner, Divine guidance to flow through you (instead of blocking its never-ending, always-available, always-abundant flow).

A little about me (Stan) — I’m a professional metaphysical practitioner, transpersonal coach, teacher, speaker, and writer. I work with various metaphysical tools and modalities, including meditation, Tarot, Akashic Records, quantum energy healing, and more. I grew up in fundamentalist Christianity, where virtually everything about my life now (all I listed above, plus my being gay and genderqeer) were off-limits and condemning me to hell. I love helping people release what blocks and restricts them from aligning with their unique personal Divinity, and learn to practice practical, inclusive, expansive spirituality in alignment with Soul and Source, for the greatest good of all, and harm to none.
